Aaron Gilani Inducted into Leadership Society at Hampden-Sydney College

2013 Oct 29

On Sunday, October 27, Hampden-Sydney College junior Aaron Salim Gilani was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society for college men and women. The Lambda Circle of ODK was established at Hampden-Sydney in 1924, and membership is a mark of highest distinction and honor. Selection of members is based on their influence as campus leaders to better campus life and to encourage high standards in all activities.

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Aaron served two terms on the Student Senate and currently serves as a Resident Advisor. He is a member of the Executive Staff of the Student Government President, the Acousticals (a capella group), the Garnet & Grey Society (admissions tour guides), the President’s Men, the honor societies Psi Chi (psychology) and Chi Beta Phi (sciences), and the H-SC Volunteer Fire Department. Aaron is the Risk Management Chair of the social fraternity Chi Phi and was founder of last year’s Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive. He was the ODK Award winner in 2012 and, at Opening Convocation in September 2013, he received the President's Award for Scholarship and Character. A biology and psychology major, he is a graduate of Cosby High School and is the son of Salim & Meenaz Gilani of Chesterfield.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked nationally in the top 100 of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
