Alex Cartwright Inducted into Leadership Society

On Sunday, October 23, Hampden-Sydney College senior Alexander Chase Cartwright was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society for college men and women. The Lambda Circle of ODK was established at Hampden-Sydney in 1924, and membership is a mark of highest distinction and honor. Selection of members is based on their influence as campus leaders to better campus life and to encourage high standards in all activities.

A Madison Scholar, Alex serves as President of the Pre-Law Society, as 1st Reviewer of the Union-Philanthropic Society, as Opinion Editor of the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, and as a member of the Student Court. He is a member of the Society of '91 leadership program, the President's Men, and the honor societies Phi Alpha Delta (law), and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Alex was the recipient of the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award at Opening Convocation in August 2011 and is a candidate for the Wilson Center Public Service Program Certificate. A mathematical economics major, he is a graduate of Westfield School and is the son of Bob & Mindy Cartwright of Howard.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
