Alex Cartwright Receives Public Service Certificate at Hampden-Sydney College

Hampden-Sydney College senior Alexander Chase Cartwright recently received the prestigious James Madison Public Service Certificate from Dr. David E. Marion, Director of the Wilson Center, and Dr. Dennis G. Stevens, Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Hampden-Sydney College, on behalf of the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest. The Public Service Certificates are presented to seniors who have successfully completed a two-year concentration of classes, internship, and research and who are seriously considering careers in public service.

A Madison Scholar, Alex served as Chairman of the Student Court, as President of the Union-Philanthropic Society, as Opinion Editor for the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, and as Vice President for Hampden-Sydney Students for Liberty. He is a member of the Society of '91 (leadership program), the President's Men, and the honor societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), Phi Alpha Delta (law), and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Alex, a mathematical economics major, is a graduate of Westfield School and is the son of Bob & Mindy Cartwright of Howard.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
