Alex Cartwright Recognized in Collegiate Who's Who

Alexander Chase Cartwright, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, has been recognized as an outstanding campus leader in the 2012 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

A Madison Scholar, Alex serves as President of the Pre-Law Society, as 1st Reviewer of the Union-Philanthropic Society, as Opinion Editor of the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, and as a member of the Student Court. He is a member of the Society of '91 (leadership program), the President's Men, and the honor societies Phi Alpha Delta (law), and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Alex was the recipient of the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award at Opening Convocation in August 2011 and is a candidate for the Wilson Center Public Service Program Certificate. A mathematical economics major, Alex is a graduate of Westfield School and is the son of Bob & Mindy Cartwright of Howard.

Twenty-one students from Hampden-Sydney College were selected for this year's edition. Students are nominated by seniors, administrators, faculty, and coaches based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success. They join a select group of students from more than 2000 institutions of higher learning in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
