John Chambers Receives Public Service Certificate at Hampden-Sydney College

Hampden-Sydney College senior John Robert Chambers recently received the prestigious James Madison Public Service Certificate from Dr. David E. Marion, Director of the Wilson Center, and Dr. Dennis G. Stevens, Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Hampden-Sydney College, on behalf of the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest. The Public Service Certificates are presented to seniors who have successfully completed a two-year concentration of classes, internship, and research and who are seriously considering careers in public service.

A Madison Scholar, John served as Chair of the Student Senate, as Vice-President of the honorary society Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), and as President of the social fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He played offensive line for the varsity football team. John is a member of the honorary societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics) and Phi Sigma Iota (foreign language), the Pre-Business Society, the President's Men, and the Tiger Athletic Club.. John, an economics and commerce and Spanish major, is a graduate of Saint Anne's-Belfield in Charlottesville, VA, and is the son of Judy & Martin Chambers of Centennial.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
