2012 Jan 12

John Robert Chambers, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, has been recognized as an outstanding campus leader in the 2012 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

John serves as Chair of the Student Senate and as President of the social fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He plays offensive line for the varsity football team. John is a member of the Pre-Business Society, the President's Men, and the Tiger Athletic Club, and received the Omicron Delta Kappa Award for leadership in Fall 2010. An economics & commerce major, John is a graduate of Saint Anne's-Belfield in Charlottesville, VA, and is the son of Judy & Martin Chambers of Centennial.

Twenty-one students from Hampden-Sydney College were selected for this year's edition. Students are nominated by seniors, administrators, faculty, and coaches based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success. They join a select group of students from more than 2000 institutions of higher learning in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
