John Dekarske Elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Hampden-Sydney College

Hampden-Sydney College senior John Ryan Dekarske was recently elected to the honor society Phi Beta Kappa. Membership recognizes the highest academic achievement, moral character, responsible citizenship, and broad intellectual curiosity.
A Venable Scholar, John serves as President of the professional scientific fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma and as an Investigator for the Student Court. He is Editor-in-Chief of The Hampden-Sydney Journal of the Sciences. John is a member of the honorary societies Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership) and Chi Beta Phi (sciences) and received the CRC Award for Chemistry and the Topham Chemistry Award. A chemistry major, John is a graduate of Southampton Academy in Courtland, VA, and is the son of Bob & Sally Dekarske of Newburgh.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked nationally in the top 100 of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
