John Dekarske Initiated into Chi Beta Phi at Hampden-Sydney College

On April 12 Hampden-Sydney College student John Ryan Dekarske was initiated into the Gamma Chapter of Chi Beta Phi, the national honorary science society that recognizes and rewards academic excellence in the sciences and encourages participation in scientific fields. The Gamma Chapter of this prestigious fraternity was installed at Hampden-Sydney in 1921.

A Venable Scholar, John serves as Treasurer of the professional scientific fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma and as a Student Court Investigator. He works as an Instrument Technician in the Chemistry Department at H-SC. A chemistry and biology major, John is a graduate of Southampton Academy and is the son of Bob & Sally Dekarske of Franklin.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
