John Dekarske Selected for Virginia Program at Oxford

2012 Aug 17

Between June 25 and August 4, 2012, Hampden-Sydney College junior John Ryan Dekarske studied Tudor-Stuart history and literature at St. Anne's College in Oxford, England. John, a chemistry and biology major, is a graduate of Southampton Academy and is the son of Bob & Sally Dekarske of Franklin.

This opportunity is offered to juniors and seniors by the Global Education and Study Abroad Department at H-SC through the Virginia Program at Oxford University. The Oxford system combines frequent lectures by world-class scholars and weekly tutorials conducted by University dons. Tutorial groups are small, allowing for considerable individual attention and active participation.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
