Marcus Payne Inducted into Leadership Society

2013 Mar 25

On Sunday, March 24, Hampden-Sydney College senior Marcus Gabriel Payne was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society for college men and women. The Lambda Circle of ODK was established at Hampden-Sydney in 1924, and membership is a mark of highest distinction and honor. Selection of members is based on their influence as campus leaders to better campus life and to encourage high standards in all activities.

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Marcus played defensive line on the varsity football team and was four times named to the All-ODAC Academic Team. He serves as President of the honorary society Eta Sigma Phi (classics) and is a member of Phi Alpha Theta (history). He is also a member of the Classics Club and the Society of 1791 leadership program. A history and classics major, he is a graduate of The Covenant School and is the son of Don & Patty Payne of Charlottesville.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
