Michael van Reekum Initiated into Phi Beta Kappa at Hampden-Sydney College

Hampden-Sydney College junior Michael Stephen van Reekum was initiated into the honor society Phi Beta Kappa on Tuesday, April 3. Membership recognizes the highest academic achievement, moral character, responsible citizenship, and broad intellectual curiosity.

A Madison Scholar, Michael plays linebacker for the varsity football team and is a member of the Future Educators Club, the Tiger Athletic Club, and the social fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. He was recognized for leadership in the 2012 edition of Who's Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges. A psychology major, Michael is a graduate of Collegiate School and is the son of son of F.B. van Reekum & the late J.R. van Reekum, Jr. of Manakin Sabot.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
