Michael van Reekum Recognized in Collegiate Who's Who

Michael Stephen van Reekum, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, has been recognized as an outstanding campus leader in the 2012 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

A Madison Scholar, Michael plays linebacker for the varsity football team and is a member of the Future Educators Club, the Tiger Athletic Club, and the social fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. A psychology major, Michael is a graduate of Collegiate School and is the son of F.B. van Reekum and the late J.R. van Reekum, Jr. of Manakin Sabot.

Twenty-one students from Hampden-Sydney College were selected for this year's edition. Students are nominated by seniors, administrators, faculty, and coaches based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success. They join a select group of students from more than 2000 institutions of higher learning in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
