Parker Dunaway Initiated into Society for Collegiate Journalists

Parker Alexander Dunaway, a student at Hampden-Sydney College, was initiated on March 5, 2013, into the Society for Collegiate Journalists.

Parker, a sophomore, served this year as the Associate Editor of the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, and is a member of the Classics Club, the Future Educators Club, the Pre-Law Society, and Phi Alpha Delta, the pre-law fraternity. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman Journalist at Final Convocation in the Spring of 2011. A history and Latin major, he is a graduate of Christian Life Academy and is the son of Heber E. Dunaway, Jr., MD of Baton Rouge and Kimbrell Dunaway of Jackson, MS.

The Society for Collegiate Journalists is the national collegiate honorary society existing to recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in journalism and to encourage good journalistic practices. The society was founded at Syracuse University in 1909, and a chapter was installed at Hampden-Sydney in 1939.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
