Ryan Carter Inducted into Leadership Society

On Sunday, October 23, Hampden-Sydney College junior Ryan Martin Carter was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society for college men and women. The Lambda Circle of ODK was established at Hampden-Sydney in 1924, and membership is a mark of highest distinction and honor. Selection of members is based on their influence as campus leaders to better campus life and to encourage high standards in all activities.

An Allan Scholar, Ryan serves as a Head Resident Advisor and as Captain on the varsity baseball team where he plays catcher and outfield. He is a Peer Mentor for The Network and is a member of the Big Brother Mentor Program in the local community and the Society of '91 leadership program. Ryan was selected for Who's Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges and has received the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award, the President's Award for Scholarship and Character, the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award, and the All-ODAC All-Academic Award. An economics & commerce and psychology major, he is a graduate of Thomas Dale High School and is the son of Robert (Russ) & Brenda Carter of Chester.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
